Benjamin Daniel, a 33-year-old professional dancer known as "Ben Dancer," has embarked on a mission to dance for 168 consecutive hours. The attempt, which began on September 22 at Freedom Park in Lagos, aims to eclipse the current Guinness World Record of 127 hours, set in 2023 by Indian dancer Srushti Sudhir Jagtap.

To manage the physical demands of the marathon, Daniel has been utilizing a strategy of accumulating his permitted five-minute rest breaks for every hour of activity, allowing him to dance for several hours at a time. His team noted that he underwent rigorous cardiovascular and dietary preparation prior to the event, and a medical team remains on-site to monitor his health throughout the challenge.

The performance has drawn significant public attention, transforming the venue into a lively scene where supporters gather to film and dance alongside him. Daniel’s routine incorporates a variety of musical styles, including Afrobeats, fuji, jazz, and zouk, while he periodically changes into traditional Nigerian attire such as the agbada and dashiki. Supporters have expressed both admiration for his resolve and concern regarding the physical strain of the endeavor.

While Guinness World Records has yet to verify the attempt, the event follows a recent trend of record-breaking pursuits in Nigeria, which gained momentum after chef Hilda Baci’s successful 93-hour cooking marathon in 2023. Daniel’s team stated that the performance is intended to celebrate Nigeria’s cultural diversity as much as it serves as a test of endurance.
