Nvidia announced a substantial financial performance for the second quarter, with revenue reaching $96 billion, more than double the figure reported during the same period last year. The company anticipates continued growth, projecting $108 billion in revenue for the upcoming quarter.
The surge in earnings was largely fueled by the company's data centre division, which saw a 117% increase in revenue to $89 billion. This growth reflects the widespread reliance on Nvidia’s hardware by major technology firms, including Microsoft, Google, Meta, and Amazon, to support their artificial intelligence infrastructure.
CEO Jensen Huang noted that the development of AI infrastructure is moving "at full steam," describing the sector as having reached an "inflection point." Following the announcement, Nvidia shares increased by approximately 4% in after-hours trading, as the results surpassed Wall Street expectations.
Beyond supplying hardware, Nvidia has begun investing in companies such as OpenAI, Anthropic, and SpaceX to support the development of AI capabilities. While the firm faces emerging competition from domestic rivals and alternative processors, its current market position remains dominant, with a market capitalization exceeding $5 trillion. Analysts, including Matt Britzman of Hargreaves Lansdown, characterized the performance as a "monster set of results" that underscores the company's significant influence on the broader stock market.
