President Donald Trump has announced revisions to the design of a planned triumphal arch, stating the structure will now serve as a military complex. According to the President, the facility will be equipped to store military hardware and facilitate the rapid deployment of drones and snipers from the roof and plaza areas.
Writing on his Truth Social platform, Trump stated that the updates were made at the request of the U.S. military for national security purposes. He described the project as a unique facility, asserting that Washington D.C. is currently the only major global capital lacking such a monument. The President did not provide a specific timeline for construction or clarify whether additional regulatory approvals are required for the modified plans.
The proposed 250-foot structure is slated for a location near Arlington National Cemetery, overlooking the Potomac River. Previous design renderings showcased a golden statue of Lady Liberty atop the arch, accompanied by gold eagles and inscriptions referencing American ideals. At its planned height, the monument would significantly exceed the scale of the nearby Lincoln Memorial.
The Department of Defence has not provided further details regarding the project. This initiative follows a series of other capital improvement projects undertaken during Trump's second term, including renovations to the White House Rose Garden and the Oval Office.
