Swiss law enforcement has initiated a nationwide search for a perpetrator following a shooting at a techno music event in the town of Aarau. The incident, which occurred at the Schachen race track around 02:30 local time on Sunday, resulted in the death of 22-year-old Italian national Maria Spinelli.

Five additional victims—four men and one woman, all aged between 24 and 27—were transported to local hospitals with injuries described as ranging from minor to severe. Two other Italian citizens sustained minor injuries and have since returned home, according to the Italian foreign ministry.

Aarau cantonal police spokesman Michael Leupold confirmed that investigators currently have no leads regarding the identity or number of suspects involved. While the investigation remains ongoing, authorities believe the perpetrator has likely fled the immediate area. Police have established a significant presence in and around Aarau, with reports of armed officers patrolling highways up to 30km away from the site. The operation is being conducted in coordination with German authorities, given the town's proximity to the border.

The event, which had an expected attendance of up to 3,500 people, was organized by Agency Events AG. Company representative Olivier Grein stated that the firm is "shaken" and is cooperating fully with the police investigation. Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni expressed confidence in the Swiss authorities' ability to "shed full light on what happened and find anyone responsible."

Police have cordoned off the race track and surrounding areas, including a nearby swimming pool and sports field. Officials are urging members of the public to provide any photographs or video footage captured during the event to assist in the investigation.
