Following an initial teaser in July, Boox has shared further details regarding its upcoming miniature e-reader, the Picco. The device features a 3.97-inch touchscreen e-paper display, which offers a functional improvement over similar compact readers currently on the market.
Unlike the Xteink X4 series, the Picco does not include rear magnets for phone attachment. Instead, the hardware focuses on tactile navigation, incorporating physical page-turn buttons that support customizable short and long-press actions. While Boox’s typical product lineup utilizes Android, the Picco will operate on a streamlined, Linux-based system. The device includes pre-installed utility software, such as a todo list, a timer, and a tracker for reading statistics.
Storage management on the Picco relies on microSD cards, as the device lacks internal storage. However, users have multiple options for transferring content, including a USB-C port—a feature absent in comparable devices—and wireless transfers via a dedicated companion app.
Despite these updates, several specifications remain unconfirmed, including the retail price, battery longevity, Bluetooth capabilities, and potential support for audiobook playback. Boox is expected to provide full details during the device's official launch in November.
