Two Palestinian teenagers, 19-year-old Omar al-Nassan and 16-year-old Khalil Abu Alia, were laid to rest following their deaths in the village of al-Mughayyir. Local officials reported that the youths were killed during a confrontation that erupted as residents attempted to prevent Israeli settlers from taking livestock.
The Israeli military stated that its forces entered the village to secure an Israeli civilian and police officers attempting to retrieve animals. According to the military, troops opened fire on individuals described as "key instigators" of a "violent disturbance" involving stone-throwing. This incident follows a broader trend of increased instability in the region, with United Nations data indicating an average of more than three settler-related attacks per day this year.
In a separate incident, Israeli forces demolished the village of Khirbet al-Tabban in the Masafer Yatta area. The human rights organization B'Tselem reported that 70 residents, including 28 children, were displaced without warning. The military maintains that the structures were built illegally within a designated firing zone, a position upheld by the Israeli Supreme Court in 2022. B'Tselem characterizes these actions as part of a wider campaign of displacement in the West Bank.
International law considers Israeli settlements in the West Bank and East Jerusalem to be illegal. Since the beginning of the year, the UN has recorded at least 81 Palestinian deaths at the hands of Israeli forces or settlers, while three Israelis have been killed by Palestinians in the territory during the same period.
