The family of Steve Irwin, the iconic conservationist known globally as the "Crocodile Hunter," has commemorated the 20th anniversary of his death. Irwin passed away on September 4, 2006, at the age of 44, following a stingray injury sustained while filming at the Great Barrier Reef.
In a social media post, his daughter Bindi Irwin, now 28, reflected on the enduring nature of her father's influence. She described him as a "superhero" and noted that while his professional life focused on wildlife conservation, his true legacy is one of "love" for both the planet and humanity. Bindi also shared that her five-year-old daughter regularly watches her grandfather's documentaries, forming a connection with the man she never met.
The family continues to operate Australia Zoo in Queensland, maintaining the work that defined Irwin's career. His wife, Terri Irwin, marked the occasion by sharing archival footage of Steve discussing the joy of becoming a father, where he famously recounted naming Bindi after one of his favorite crocodiles. His son, Robert Irwin, also honored the anniversary by posting a childhood photograph with his father, accompanied by the message, "Your legacy is forever."
