Australian Minister for International Development Dr. Anne Aly concluded a two-day visit to Cambodia on July 31, aimed at bolstering the long-standing cooperation between the two nations. During her trip, Dr. Aly held high-level discussions with Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Prak Sokhonn, as well as Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Economy and Finance Dr. Aun Pornmoniroth.
The visit saw the announcement of A$3 million in new funding dedicated to enhancing Cambodia’s social protection systems, specifically targeting vulnerable households impacted by economic volatility. Furthermore, the Australian government projected its official development assistance to Cambodia for the 2026-27 period to reach approximately A$94.4 million.
Dr. Aly’s itinerary included a visit to Kirirom Food Production, where she observed Australian-backed efforts to assist local enterprises in reaching global markets and fostering job creation for women. Additionally, at the Kampong Speu fishway, she unveiled A$9.5 million in funding for the next phase of the Australian Centre for International Agricultural Research’s FishTech program, which focuses on food security and environmental sustainability.
Reflecting on the visit, Dr. Aly emphasized the importance of the bilateral relationship. “Australia is proud to stand alongside Cambodia as a trusted and longstanding partner,” she stated, noting that the initiatives are designed to align with Cambodia’s own national development priorities. The minister also engaged with Australian volunteers and scholarship alumni, highlighting the ongoing commitment to human capital development in the region.
