Cambodia and Japan have committed to deepening their bilateral cooperation in the healthcare sector. This initiative focuses on the exchange of medical expertise, specifically targeting orthopedics, joint surgery, emergency care, elderly care, and rehabilitation services.
Koy Vanny, Secretary of State at the Cambodian Ministry of Health, led a delegation to Tokyo from July 16 to 18, 2026. The visit, facilitated by the Japan-Cambodia Association and the Taiichicai Medical Group, involved tours of several facilities, including the Tama Plaza Nursing School, Hanno Orthopedic Hospital, and Wako Rehabilitation Hospital.
Professor Yasuhiro Kigawa, Chairman of the Taiichicai Medical Group, expressed a strong commitment to collaborating with the Cambodian Ministry of Health to share technical knowledge and support the training of healthcare personnel. This partnership aims to establish a long-term framework for medical development.
Nuth Sambath, a health science expert at the Royal Academy of Cambodia, noted that while the nation's healthcare sector has seen significant progress over the past decade, further modernization is required. He emphasized the need for continued international cooperation to improve treatment quality, particularly for both communicable and non-communicable diseases in rural and remote areas.
This healthcare collaboration aligns with the broader Comprehensive Strategic Partnership between Cambodia and Japan, which encompasses diverse sectors including infrastructure, education, digital technology, and human resource development.
