Cambodian Deputy Prime Minister Vongsey Vissoth and U.S. Chargé d'Affaires Aleksandra Zittle met on Tuesday at the Council of Ministers to discuss the deepening of bilateral relations. The discussions focused on enhancing collaboration in various sectors, including economy, trade, investment, tourism, health, energy, security, and defense.
Vissoth highlighted the positive trajectory of Cambodia-U.S. relations, noting that the United States remains Cambodia's largest export market. He also acknowledged the significant role played by the American Chamber of Commerce in Cambodia (AmCham) and the U.S.-ASEAN Business Council (USABC) in fostering economic ties. Regarding regional security, Vissoth emphasized the Cambodian government's commitment to combating cybercrime, noting that such illicit activities harm the nation's international reputation and require close cooperation with global partners.
Chargé d'Affaires Zittle expressed her commitment to strengthening the friendship between the two nations. She pointed to recent progress in the aviation sector, specifically citing Cambodia's signing of the Open Skies agreement and its accession to the Cape Town Convention. Zittle also noted that a recent visit by a large USABC delegation underscored growing confidence among American businesses in Cambodia's investment potential.
Data from the General Department of Customs and Excise indicates that Cambodia’s total exports reached over $17 billion in the first half of the year, a 19.5% increase compared to the same period last year, with the U.S. market serving as a primary driver of this growth.
