The Cambodian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation has issued a formal protest regarding ongoing territorial incursions by Thai armed forces along the shared border. According to an official statement released on July 22, the activities occurred in Oddar Meanchey province throughout mid-July.
Authorities reported that between July 13 and 15, Thai forces engaged in road construction near Boundary Pillars No 8 and No 9 in the Ta Tum area of Anlong Veng district. Subsequent actions were documented from July 15 to 19, involving further road development and the installation of barbed wire between Boundary Pillars No 19 and No 20 in the Chup Doeum Khnol area of Samraong city.
The Cambodian government maintains that these actions violate its sovereignty and territorial integrity, citing historical maps established under the 1904 Franco-Siamese Convention and the 1907 Treaty. Furthermore, the ministry stated that the construction breaches the 2000 Memorandum of Understanding on land boundary demarcation and a 2025 Joint Border Committee agreement aimed at de-escalating tensions.
In its statement, Cambodia emphasized that it does not recognize any unilateral boundary claims made by Thailand. The government has called for an immediate halt to these activities and any other unauthorized occupations, urging a peaceful resolution to the dispute in line with international law and existing bilateral agreements to ensure regional stability.
