Cambodian officials are studying how construction of a wastewater drainage network near the approach road to Kizuna Bridge in Kampong Cham city could affect surrounding infrastructure and traffic. The review follows a meeting held Monday and chaired by Hong Sinara, undersecretary of state at the Ministry of Public Works and Transport.
Participants included senior officials from the ministry’s technical departments, representatives of the Kampong Cham Provincial Department of Public Works and Transport, technical staff, members of the project management unit, and representatives of Beijing Urban Construction Group.
The discussions focused on reviewing potential impacts from the installation of the wastewater drainage network and identifying technical measures to address challenges that could arise during construction. Authorities said the aim was to ensure the work proceeds smoothly, efficiently, and in accordance with technical requirements.
Officials emphasized the need for careful coordination, as construction could disrupt infrastructure and traffic near the Kizuna Bridge. Managing these impacts would help maintain public transit access while development continues. Close technical cooperation between authorities, management teams, and contractors is expected to reduce bottlenecks and speed up implementation.
The participation of Beijing Urban Construction Group, a major Chinese construction company, highlights the role of international construction expertise in Cambodia’s infrastructure projects. During the meeting, technical experts reviewed challenges and discussed measures intended to minimize disruption to road users and surrounding infrastructure while the wastewater network is built.
The meeting is part of broader efforts by the Ministry of Public Works and Transport to strengthen oversight of infrastructure development and ensure construction activities meet technical standards. The wastewater network is expected to improve wastewater management in the area, while proper coordination during construction will help prevent unnecessary disruption to traffic and other public infrastructure.
