Cambodian Tourism Minister Huot Hak recently concluded a diplomatic mission to Shanghai, where he met with prominent travel industry leaders to bolster the nation's tourism sector. The visit, which took place between July 15 and 17 alongside the 2026 World AI Conference, focused on capitalizing on Cambodia’s pilot visa exemption policy to attract more Chinese travelers.
Acting under the direction of Prime Minister Hun Manet, Minister Hak engaged in discussions with representatives from Trip.com Group, Touch Travel Agency, and Van Hao Sports. The dialogue emphasized the creation of specialized travel packages designed to showcase Cambodia’s diverse tourism and investment potential. The Minister encouraged these firms to collaborate on new marketing campaigns, develop updated travel itineraries, and host familiarization trips for industry experts.
The initiative is part of a broader government strategy to restore the Chinese market, which served as Cambodia's primary source of international arrivals prior to the pandemic. By strengthening ties with major outbound operators in Shanghai, the Ministry of Tourism aims to convert the current visa-free policy into a significant increase in tourism traffic, thereby supporting the country's ongoing economic recovery.
