Cambodia’s fresh durian exports to China have reached 5,738 tonnes in the first seven months of 2026, representing a nearly 40-fold increase compared to the same period in 2025. This growth is being fueled by Chinese importers increasingly favoring Cambodian produce over Thai alternatives, citing superior quality, competitive pricing, and improved logistics.
Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries spokesperson Khim Finan highlighted the success of a new overland transit route through Laos, which was officially launched on June 22. This corridor has significantly streamlined the supply chain, reducing transit times from 15–20 days down to approximately five days. On July 25, the ministry oversaw the dispatch of a 50-tonne shipment by Pechenda Fruit Production, with the buyer expected to import an additional 200 tonnes in the coming weeks.
The government has prioritized the expansion of agricultural markets, with fresh durian now serving as one of 17 Cambodian products approved for the Chinese market. These trade opportunities follow protocols signed in April 2025. As of 2025, Cambodia maintained over 16,000 hectares of durian plantations with an annual production capacity exceeding 135,000 tonnes, supported by 112 certified orchards and 20 packing houses.
Finan emphasized the importance of maintaining high standards across the supply chain to ensure the long-term viability of the export industry. "We hope all stakeholders will maintain honesty, comply with export standards and continue safeguarding product quality to strengthen Cambodia’s durian export industry in the future," he stated.
