Cambodia’s Ministry of Health and the US-ASEAN Business Council (US-ABC) have held discussions aimed at strengthening cooperation within the healthcare sector. The meeting, held in Phnom Penh on Wednesday, focused on advancing technology transfer, research, human resource development, and innovation in medical care.
The delegation from the US-ABC was led by President and CEO Brian McFeeters, accompanied by Aleks Zittle, Chargé d'Affaires at the U.S. Embassy in Cambodia. They met with Cambodian Minister of Health Chheang Ra to discuss alignment with the government's 2025–2034 health strategic plan and the first phase of the Pentagonal Strategy, which seeks to achieve universal health coverage through improved system resilience and service quality.
During the talks, both parties explored several key areas, including nutrition programs, the use of new technologies for dengue fever management, and strategies to combat non-communicable diseases through health education and the promotion of low-sugar products. Discussions also covered cancer care, including prevention and diagnostics, as well as public health policies regarding alcohol consumption.
Minister Chheang Ra emphasized that Cambodia welcomes private sector investment that adheres to principles of transparency, scientific evidence, and public interest. The US-ABC delegation expressed its commitment to supporting these goals through continued investment and capacity building.
Beyond healthcare, the two nations maintain ongoing bilateral cooperation across various sectors, including trade, education, agriculture, environmental conservation, and demining efforts. These initiatives are intended to support Cambodia’s institutional development and socio-economic progress.
