During a review meeting held on July 21, the Cambodian Ministry of Justice reported that courts across the country processed 81,415 out of 129,137 total cases during the first six months of 2026, achieving a resolution rate of 63.05%. The data covers a broader initiative launched on January 9, 2024, aimed at accelerating case resolution and improving the quality of legal services.
According to the ministry, criminal cases accounted for 65,199 of the total, with 44,689 resolved (68.54%), while civil cases totaled 63,938, with 36,726 resolved (57.44%).
Regarding the campaign to address judicial irregularities, the ministry received 459 formal complaints. Following investigations, officials identified only 20 cases—representing 0.01% of the national total—where irregularities were suspected. Of these, 16 cases triggered inspections involving 26 judges and 7 prosecutors, who have been referred to the disciplinary council of the Supreme Council of the Magistracy. Three additional cases were recommended for retrial, and one was transferred to a different jurisdiction.
The ministry also highlighted its efforts to provide free legal counsel to citizens through a team of 35 volunteer lawyers. Furthermore, courts have been encouraged to utilize mediation to resolve civil disputes, with 184 cases settled at the primary court level and 17 at higher courts during the period.
Minister of Justice Koeut Rith emphasized that the government remains committed to strictly enforcing the law, particularly regarding five priority areas: civil registration, traffic offenses, narcotics, juvenile delinquency, and cyber fraud.
