Football superstar Cristiano Ronaldo has tied the knot with his long-time partner, model and influencer Georgina Rodríguez, in a civil ceremony in Portugal. The wedding took place on 11 August in the coastal town of Cascais, near Lisbon, according to Portuguese media, which have dubbed it the wedding of the year.
Ronaldo, 41, announced the marriage on his Instagram account, posting a photo of two hands—presumed to be his over his wife's—both wearing wedding rings. The post quickly garnered over 3 million likes within half an hour.
The couple, who have been together for ten years, first met at a Gucci shop in Madrid, where Rodríguez was working at the time, while Ronaldo was playing for Real Madrid. They announced their engagement on 11 August last year, with Rodríguez sharing a picture of a large ring and writing in Spanish, 'Yes I do. In this and in all my lives.'
Their five children attended the ceremony. Ronaldo has scored nearly 1,000 goals in a career that has seen him play for Sporting Lisbon, Manchester United, Real Madrid, Juventus, Al Nassr in Saudi Arabia, and the Portuguese national team. He recently played in his sixth World Cup, a record for appearances in the men's finals, which he shares with Lionel Messi of Argentina.
