On June 11, 2026, NASA’s Curiosity rover utilized its Mastcam instrument to capture a detailed view of a geological feature nicknamed “Miraflores.” The formation, which stands approximately 20 feet (6 meters) tall, is a butte that remained intact as the surrounding landscape underwent erosion, contributing to the deepening of the valley the rover is currently navigating.

The surrounding terrain is characterized by a series of polygon-shaped surface features. The final image released by NASA is a composite of 11 individual frames transmitted to Earth, with color adjustments applied to simulate terrestrial lighting conditions.

The Curiosity mission is managed by the Jet Propulsion Laboratory in Pasadena, California, for NASA’s Science Mission Directorate. The rover's Mastcam was constructed and is operated by Malin Space Science Systems.
