Disney and TikTok have announced a partnership that permits content creators to utilize clips from Disney’s extensive library, including titles from the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Star Wars, and Toy Story. The initiative, which aims to integrate fan-made content with official studio material, will debut in the United States before expanding to international markets.

This collaboration arrives as Hollywood studios increasingly recognize the marketing potential of user-generated content. By providing creators with authorized access to film and television assets, Disney aims to engage audiences who previously faced the risk of copyright takedowns when using such material. As part of the arrangement, the companies will launch a joint program designed to highlight specific creator videos and provide participants with access to exclusive events.

Industry analysts suggest the deal serves as a strategic pivot for Disney, particularly following the cancellation of a planned $1 billion partnership with OpenAI. That previous agreement, which would have allowed for the use of Disney characters in AI-generated videos, was abandoned in March when OpenAI discontinued its Sora tool.

While the partnership offers significant promotional opportunities, experts note potential challenges. Gareth Sutcliffe of Enders Analysis pointed to the necessity of implementing strict safety guardrails, citing ongoing regulatory debates regarding TikTok’s operations in Europe. Additionally, the content will be featured on Verts, Disney’s own short-form video platform that launched in the U.S. earlier this year.
