Royal Vopak, a Dutch infrastructure company, has expressed interest in developing liquefied natural gas (LNG) and oil refinery facilities in Cambodia. The proposal was discussed during a meeting in China between Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet and Chen Yan, the company's president for China and East Asia.
During the discussions, which were also attended by Kith Meng, President of the Cambodia Chamber of Commerce, Chen highlighted Royal Vopak's global expertise in managing storage solutions for oil, gas, chemicals, and LNG. He noted that the company is currently collaborating with local partners to assess the feasibility of these energy infrastructure projects, which are intended to support Cambodia's rising energy demands and industrial growth.
Prime Minister Hun Manet welcomed the initiative, stating that the project aligns with the government's long-term strategy to diversify energy sources and improve the stability of the national power supply. He encouraged the company to continue technical consultations with relevant Cambodian authorities, particularly the Ministry of Mines and Energy, to advance the investment plans.
The development of such infrastructure is viewed as a critical step for Cambodia as it seeks to enhance its energy independence, increase fuel storage capacity, and ensure a reliable supply for households and industrial sectors.
