Four individuals lost their lives on Saturday when a helicopter went down in Sainte-Brigide-d'Iberville, a town located approximately 50 kilometers from Montreal. Emergency responders arrived at the scene near Rang des Écossais, off Highway 10, shortly after 14:30 local time to find the aircraft engulfed in flames.
Authorities confirmed that all occupants of the helicopter were pronounced dead at the site. While the victims have not yet been formally identified, Sgt. Audrey-Anne Bilodeau of the Sûreté du Québec noted that the process of identification could span several days. Initial reports suggest the aircraft was privately owned.
The Sûreté du Québec’s Major Crime Unit is currently leading the investigation into the circumstances of the crash. They are being assisted by crime scene technicians and officials from the Transportation Safety Board of Canada. Although the fire was brought under control within an hour of the initial emergency call, investigators remained on-site late into the evening.
