FIFA President Gianni Infantino has declared his intention to remain in office and contest a fourth term following a high-level meeting with senior executives in Rabat, Morocco. The gathering was convened at FIFA's African headquarters to address the growing backlash surrounding a failed proposal to sell commercial and event operations to private investors.
The initiative, known as the FIFA Forward Enterprise, faced sharp condemnation from UEFA, which described the plan as an “opaque” and “shabby” arrangement. Internal opposition has also intensified; FIFA secretary general Mattias Grafstom, who attended the meeting in Morocco, recently characterized the situation as a “sad and reproachable series of events” in a memo addressed to staff.
Despite these challenges, Infantino remains committed to his position. The upcoming election is scheduled for March 2027 during the FIFA Congress in Morocco. Prospective challengers have until November 18 to formally declare their candidacy, with a successful bid requiring the support of at least 106 of FIFA's 211 member associations.
