A three-person crew concluded an extensive mission aboard the International Space Station on Sunday, touching down safely southeast of Dzhezkazgan, Kazakhstan. NASA astronaut Chris Williams, along with Roscosmos cosmonauts Sergey Kud-Sverchkov and Sergei Mikaev, completed their journey at 5:27 a.m. CDT via the Soyuz MS-28 spacecraft.
The trio spent 241 days in orbit, covering over 102 million miles and completing 3,856 orbits around the planet since their departure on November 27, 2025. This mission marked the first spaceflight for both Williams and Mikaev, while serving as the second for Kud-Sverchkov.
During their time at the orbiting laboratory, the crew contributed to various scientific and technological objectives. Williams specifically focused on research related to cancer treatment advancements and the manufacturing of materials for high-performance electronics. Additionally, he conducted two spacewalks, which included maintenance on the Canadarm2 robotic arm and preparations for power system upgrades.
Following their return, the crew underwent initial medical evaluations before being transported to Karaganda, Kazakhstan. Williams is scheduled to travel to NASA’s Johnson Space Center in Houston for further post-flight procedures. The mission continues the long-standing effort to utilize the space station for research that benefits life on Earth and supports future exploration goals, including the Artemis program's missions to the Moon and eventual travel to Mars.
