Recent Israeli military operations across Gaza have resulted in the deaths of at least 13 people, including several children, according to Palestinian officials. The strikes, which targeted locations in Gaza City, Khan Younis, and Deir el-Balah, mark the second consecutive night of aerial attacks in the territory.
The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) stated that the operations were aimed at military operatives, confirming the deaths of two Hamas commanders—one from the Nukbha force and another from the Maghazi Battalion—as well as a third militant from the Jabalia Battalion. The IDF alleged that these individuals were planning attacks against Israeli targets.
The violence persists despite recent developments regarding a US-brokered peace initiative. Last week, President Donald Trump announced that Hamas had accepted a disarmament plan involving the transfer of weapons to a newly created Board of Peace. While the plan aims to facilitate the withdrawal of Israeli troops and the reconstruction of Gaza, the Israeli government has expressed significant skepticism. Israeli Energy Minister Eli Cohen stated on Sunday that no agreement is currently in place to halt hostilities, adding that Israel may require full control of the strip if disarmament does not occur.
The proposed 20-point roadmap, introduced last September, outlines a process for inventorying and storing heavy weaponry under the oversight of a Palestinian National Committee. However, this committee, composed of independent technocrats, has yet to enter Gaza. Meanwhile, the region faces severe infrastructure damage, with UN estimates suggesting that approximately 60 million tonnes of debris have been generated since the conflict intensified in October 2023.
