Jabil, a global manufacturing company with over 100 sites across more than 30 countries, is undergoing a major digital transformation focused on simplifying its technology landscape. By prioritizing integration, the company aims to reduce the technical debt accumulated over decades of operating with fragmented, site-specific tools and manual, spreadsheet-based processes.
Harish Manohar, SAP IT Director at Jabil, emphasizes a "simplify-first, then-innovate" philosophy. According to Manohar, the company's strategy is to establish a consistent data backbone before attempting to deploy advanced technologies like artificial intelligence. "Any innovation without simplification is going to add more complexity," Manohar noted, highlighting that seamless data flow is a prerequisite for effective automation and supply chain optimization.
The modernization effort involves standardizing processes across the company’s global footprint while navigating diverse regulatory environments and legacy systems. To achieve this, Jabil is moving toward an API-driven, event-based integration architecture, primarily utilizing SAP’s Integration Suite and Business Technology Platform. The company is also working to limit heavy system customizations, aiming for a "clean-core" approach that ensures long-term scalability and operational resilience.
Beyond the technical benefits, the initiative is designed to provide employees with better visibility into supply chain events, allowing for faster, data-driven decision-making. By consolidating tools and retiring fragmented systems, Jabil intends to move away from manual data reconciliation and toward predictive insights and intelligent planning. For Jabil, the ultimate goal is to turn technical simplicity into a competitive advantage that directly supports business value.
