King Norodom Sihamoni has extended his formal congratulations and well-wishes to Senate President Hun Sen in honor of his birthday. In a royal message, the King lauded Hun Sen’s long-standing dedication, patriotism, and personal sacrifices made toward the development and protection of Cambodia.
The monarch highlighted Hun Sen’s role in safeguarding national sovereignty, territorial integrity, and unity, noting that his leadership has been instrumental in fostering peace, stability, and progress across various sectors. The King also acknowledged Hun Sen’s past service as acting head of state during periods when the monarch was abroad for medical treatment in China.
Author Pov Sok described the royal message as a significant gesture of honor, reflecting the King’s appreciation for Hun Sen’s decades of service. Sok noted that Hun Sen’s legacy includes his involvement in the liberation from the Khmer Rouge, the peace negotiation process between 1987 and 1991, and the implementation of the "Win-Win" policy that ended the civil war in the late 1990s. Furthermore, Sok credited Hun Sen with revitalizing the Senate since assuming the presidency, citing increased diplomatic activity and infrastructure improvements.
Kin Phea, director of the International Relations Institute of Cambodia, characterized Hun Sen as a seasoned statesman whose extensive experience serves as a valuable resource for future generations.
