The international profile of Kun Khmer continues to rise, evidenced by the success of a dedicated training facility in Melbourne, Australia. Khov Chhay, president of the Kun Khmer Federation and Secretary-General of the Kun Khmer International Federation, recently visited the site, known as The Wat Kun Khmer, to observe its progress.
Established by a Cambodian expatriate, the gym currently serves approximately 40 students. The facility has drawn a multicultural membership, including both Khmer-Australians and individuals from various other backgrounds. Chhay noted that witnessing such diverse participation is a positive sign for the sport, stating, “Seeing people of different cultures embracing the authentic art of Kun Khmer is both inspiring and a testament to the universal values of discipline, respect and perseverance that our martial art represents.”
The visit follows a well-attended "Best of the Best" fight event in Sydney, which drew significant interest from both the local Cambodian community and the broader public. Building on this momentum, the Kun Khmer International Federation is planning to expand its footprint in Australia with three additional clubs—two in Melbourne and one in Sydney. Furthermore, officials are currently in talks with Australian sports authorities to establish a formal national federation to oversee the long-term growth of the martial art in the country.
