NASA astronaut Deniz Burnham is set to make her first journey to the International Space Station as a flight engineer for Expedition 76. The mission is scheduled to launch in March 2027 from the Baikonur Cosmodrome in Kazakhstan. Burnham will travel alongside Roscosmos cosmonauts Dmitri Petelin and Konstantin Borisov aboard the Soyuz MS-30 spacecraft for a planned seven-month stay.
During her time in orbit, Burnham will focus on scientific research and technology testing. These efforts are designed to support human exploration goals for the Moon and Mars while providing data that may offer benefits to life on Earth.
Burnham, who was selected as an astronaut in 2021 and completed her training in 2024, brings a diverse professional background to the mission. Her career includes over a decade of experience managing drilling operations in the energy sector, service as an engineering duty officer in the U.S. Navy Reserves, and an internship at NASA’s Ames Research Center. She holds degrees in chemical and mechanical engineering and is a licensed pilot.
The International Space Station has maintained a continuous human presence for over 25 years, serving as a critical platform for research and a testing ground for the technologies required for future deep-space exploration under the Artemis program.
