On August 25, 2026, representatives from NASA Headquarters and the Jet Propulsion Laboratory (JPL) gathered at the Goldstone complex near Barstow, California, to officially inaugurate the Deep Space Station 23 (DSS-23) antenna. The ceremonial ribbon-cutting event highlighted the completion of the latest addition to the Deep Space Network (DSN).

The DSS-23 antenna is part of the DSN Aperture Enhancement Project, an initiative launched in 2009 to modernize and expand the agency's communication capabilities. The project involves the installation of six 34-meter (114-foot) multifrequency beam-waveguide antennas. These advanced dishes are designed to support a wide range of missions by operating across various radio frequencies, facilitating the tracking of spacecraft, the transmission of commands, and the reception of scientific data from deep space.

The DSN is managed by JPL, a division of Caltech, on behalf of NASA's Space Communications and Navigation (SCaN) program, which operates under the Research and Technology Mission Directorate at NASA Headquarters.
