NASA’s Curiosity Mars rover has provided a new look at a geological feature nicknamed “Miraflores.” The sand-capped butte, which stands approximately 20 feet (6 meters) tall, was imaged by the rover’s Mast Camera (Mastcam) on June 11, 2026, marking the 4,923rd sol of the mission.

According to mission data, the butte is a remnant of erosion that occurred as the surrounding landscape wore away, contributing to the formation of the expansive valley the rover is currently navigating. The nearby terrain is characterized by distinct polygonal surface features.

The released view is a composite panorama created by stitching together 11 separate images transmitted to Earth. The color balance has been calibrated to simulate how the scene would appear to the human eye under Earth-like lighting conditions.

The Curiosity mission is managed by NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory in Pasadena, California, for the agency's Science Mission Directorate. The Mastcam instrument was constructed and is operated by Malin Space Science Systems.
