The Perseverance Mars rover has provided a detailed look at a region identified as "Turquoise Bay," located within the planet's "Margin Unit." The imagery, which offers a full 360-degree perspective of the landscape, was compiled from 818 individual photographs taken by the rover's Mastcam-Z camera system.
Data collection for the panorama occurred over an 11-day period, spanning from October 5 to October 16, 2023. These dates correspond to the 933rd through 944th Martian days, or sols, of the ongoing mission. NASA also released an enhanced-color version of the panorama, which utilizes processed color bands to highlight subtle geological variations and improve visual contrast.
The Perseverance mission is managed by NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory in Pasadena, California, with the California Institute of Technology overseeing the facility. The Mastcam-Z instrument is operated by Arizona State University, in partnership with Malin Space Science Systems and the Niels Bohr Institute at the University of Copenhagen, which contributed to the development and calibration of the camera hardware.
