NASA’s Psyche spacecraft has successfully captured detailed imagery of the Martian surface during a flyby conducted on May 15, 2026. The mission's multispectral imager compiled four distinct images into an enhanced-color mosaic, showcasing geological features such as volcanic plains, ridges, wind streaks, and craters.
The imaging process took place over a six-minute window as the spacecraft traveled from northeast to southwest. The resulting mosaic provides a view of the Iapygia region, situated within the planet's southern highlands. According to mission data, the resolution of the images ranges between 381 and 440 meters per pixel.
Prominent features identified in the mosaic include the Fournier crater, which spans approximately 71 miles (114 kilometers) in diameter. Additionally, the imagery highlights Oenotria Scopuli, a linear cliff system associated with the Isidis impact basin. The observation covered an area extending from 62 to 78 degrees east longitude and 4 degrees north to 14 degrees south latitude.
