NASA’s Upcoming Space Telescope to Aid Planetary Defense

NASA is preparing for the late August launch of the Nancy Grace Roman Space Telescope from the Kennedy Space Center in Florida. While the mission's primary scientific objectives involve investigating dark matter and the role of dark energy in the expansion of the universe, the telescope may also play a significant role in planetary defense.

A team of astronomers and planetary scientists is expected to present findings in September detailing how the telescope can be utilized to monitor asteroids. The research will highlight the instrument's capability to gather data on the composition, size, and flight paths of near-Earth objects.
