The National Bank of Cambodia (NBC) and the US-ASEAN Business Council (USABC) recently convened to explore new frameworks for bilateral cooperation within the financial sector. The discussions, led by NBC Governor Chea Serey and USABC President and CEO Brian McFeeters, aimed to identify opportunities for American investment and enhance economic development in Cambodia.
During the meeting, representatives from various U.S. industries—including digital technology, energy, healthcare, and manufacturing—engaged with Cambodian officials. McFeeters noted that American firms are prepared to increase their presence in the country, with a particular focus on digital finance, small and medium enterprise support, and human resource development.
Governor Serey emphasized the significance of the U.S. as a primary export market and a key partner in diversifying Cambodia's economy. She highlighted how American investment has contributed to job creation and the adoption of international standards. Furthermore, Serey pointed to the success of the Bakong Tourists program, which utilizes a U.S.-based payment network to allow visitors to make cashless transactions at millions of local merchants.
The USABC continues to act as a primary link between the American private sector and ASEAN governments. This latest delegation is also examining potential collaborations in logistics, digital trade, and critical minerals, with an emphasis on promoting sustainable growth and responsible supply chains.
