Monitoring service Down Detector recorded tens of thousands of reports from users experiencing difficulties. The disruption coincided with reports of server issues at Amazon Web Services, though both situations have since been addressed. Sony confirmed via its official status page that all services were fully operational by Friday evening.
The incident reignited public debate regarding the shift toward digital-only gaming.
