President Donald Trump has publicly refuted allegations that the United States is facing a depletion of its military arsenal. In a statement posted to Truth Social on Thursday, the president asserted that the nation possesses “massive amounts” of munitions and continues to manufacture and receive new supplies as required.
The president’s comments follow recent media reports, including coverage from the Washington Post and CBS News, which suggested the administration is grappling with a shortfall of long-range precision missiles following extensive use during ongoing combat operations. Trump characterized these reports as “treasonous” and declared that those responsible for leaking such information are being “hunted down” and will face “long term jail sentences.”
Despite the administration's assurances, independent analysis from the Center for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS) suggests significant usage of key defense systems. Mark Cancian, a senior adviser at the think tank, estimated that the US has utilized approximately 60% of its terminal high altitude area defense (THAAD) missiles and roughly two-thirds of its Patriot missile inventory since the conflict began. Furthermore, the administration has requested $87 billion in emergency funding from the US Senate, a portion of which is intended to replenish equipment and munitions.
The situation has drawn commentary from Iranian officials, with Defence Minister Majid Ibn-e-Reza claiming that Iran’s domestic defense industry provides a superior capability to respond to threats compared to imported systems. Meanwhile, the US continues to balance its own military needs with requests for support from allies, including Ukraine, though the administration has signaled caution regarding further transfers of Patriot missiles.
