Military operations in the Middle East intensified early Monday as the United States Central Command (CENTCOM) initiated a ninth night of airstrikes against Iran. According to officials, the campaign is intended to diminish Iranian military capacity used to threaten civilian mariners and commercial shipping within the Strait of Hormuz.
The conflict, which began on February 28, has seen a collapse in preliminary peace negotiations. As the U.S. maintains its strikes, Iran has retaliated by targeting American allies and military assets across the region. On Monday, Kuwaiti military officials confirmed that their air defense systems were actively engaging hostile drones. Meanwhile, Bahrain issued emergency warnings, advising residents to seek shelter as air raid sirens were activated.
In Syria, Iran’s Revolutionary Guards claimed to have executed a surprise attack on a command center in the Al-Tanf region, describing the action as retaliation for the deaths of soldiers from Iranshahr. Additionally, Iran alleged that U.S. forces struck an unfinished nuclear power plant in Darkhovin. The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) stated it is investigating the report, though Director Rafael Grossi emphasized that the site held no nuclear material during the agency's last inspection and urged military restraint near such facilities.
The weekend saw a rise in American military casualties, with CENTCOM reporting three fatalities and one service member missing. These deaths, occurring in Jordan and Iraq, bring the total number of U.S. military personnel killed since the conflict began to 17. Iran’s health ministry reported on Friday that 50 people have been killed and over 500 injured within its own borders during the recent fighting.
Despite ongoing mediation efforts, the deadlock over the Strait of Hormuz—a critical artery for global oil supplies—remains unresolved. Iranian military commander Ali Abdollahi has warned that any further U.S. aggression will be met with a "decisive and devastating response."
