Selena Gomez is seeking to be dismissed from a lawsuit filed by investors who allege they were defrauded of nearly $1.2 million by the mental health platform Wondermind. The company, which was co-founded by Gomez and her mother five years ago, is currently facing claims that the singer breached her contract by failing to adequately support the business.

The plaintiffs contend that they were led to believe Gomez would serve as the head of marketing, leveraging her significant social media presence and brand to build the company. However, Gomez’s attorney, Matthew Rosengart, has characterized the allegations as “threadbare,” “vague,” and “contradictory.” Rosengart stated that the singer never entered into an agreement to manage the firm or fulfill the specific marketing commitments alleged by the investors. He further described the claims as “meritless if not frivolous” and indicated that her legal team is considering seeking sanctions against the plaintiffs.

While Gomez seeks to distance herself from the litigation, the case continues to involve her mother and other co-founders. Crisis PR expert Lauren Beeching noted that while the situation generates negative headlines, it may not cause lasting damage to the star's reputation among her core audience. Beeching highlighted the complexities of family-run business ventures, suggesting that such partnerships often require more rigorous governance and clearly defined responsibilities to avoid conflicts.
