The Cambodian government has officially inaugurated a night tourism program at the Bakong My Village Tourism Community in Siem Reap province. Located near the historic Bakong Temple, the initiative is designed to broaden the region's appeal by offering immersive rural experiences after dark.
Tourism Minister Huot Hak, who led the launch ceremony, emphasized that the project is intended to do more than simply extend operating hours. According to Hak, the primary goal is to stimulate the local economy by creating new revenue streams for residents, supporting community-based businesses, and fostering regional competitiveness. He noted that the strategy focuses on ensuring that tourism-led growth directly benefits the local population through job creation and new service opportunities.
The rollout, which was attended by local leaders and community members, is part of a wider national effort to diversify Cambodia's tourism sector. By integrating night-time activities, including potential film initiatives and evening temple visits, the government aims to entice international travelers to extend their itineraries. Officials anticipate that the project will provide sustainable economic support for local artisans, food vendors, and various service providers within the community.
