During a meeting in Shanghai, Chinese President Xi Jinping called for the continued strengthening of the long-standing partnership between China and Cambodia. The discussion took place as Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet visited the country to participate in the 2026 World Artificial Intelligence Conference and the High-Level Meeting on Global AI Governance.
President Xi emphasized the importance of the "Diamond Hexagon" cooperation framework, urging both nations to deepen their shared future in the current era. Key areas of focus include the development of the Industrial Development Corridor and the Fish and Rice Corridor. Xi also highlighted the need to modernize traditional sectors like agriculture and electricity while expanding into digital economy and artificial intelligence initiatives.
Security cooperation was a significant topic, with both leaders agreeing to intensify efforts against cross-border criminal activities, including telecom fraud, online gambling, smuggling, and counterfeiting. Additionally, President Xi expressed support for peaceful dialogue between Cambodia and Thailand regarding their border disputes, noting that China is prepared to assist in fostering mutual trust between the two neighbors.
Prime Minister Hun Manet reaffirmed Cambodia's commitment to the one-China policy, stating that his country's friendly stance toward Beijing remains unchanged despite global shifts. He expressed appreciation for China's ongoing economic support and pledged to continue working toward deeper political trust and expanded trade infrastructure. Regarding the border situation with Thailand, Hun Manet confirmed that Cambodia remains dedicated to resolving issues through negotiation.
