Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said Moscow used North Korean ballistic missiles in strikes on the southern city of Zaporizhzhia that killed at least six people and wounded at least 19. In a video address on Monday evening, he said Russia "for the first time" could not wage war without reinforcements from North Korea and warned that deeper North Korean involvement posed a danger to the rest of the world.
Regional Governor Ivan Fedorov said the Russian attack had hit industrial facilities, infrastructure and non-residential buildings in Zaporizhzhia. He posted images of vehicles and buildings on fire, saying the city had come under fire from missiles and guided bombs.
Elsewhere in Ukraine, one person was injured in overnight strikes on Kyiv, where air raid sirens sounded twice. A hospital was damaged, though officials said staff and patients were sheltering. Strikes on substations in Kherson and Kharkiv caused power outages, and two women aged 52 and 66 were injured in a drone attack on Sumy, according to Sumy City Military Administration head Sergiy Kryvosheenko.
Ukrainian officials said Russia launched 120 drones overnight along with a range of missiles, but did not disclose how many missiles were fired or intercepted. The update followed an Air Force statement urging the media to avoid sensationalised reporting about shortages of air defence interceptors.
In Russia, Ukrainian strikes hit a logistics centre belonging to Wildberries, an online retailer often described as Russia's Amazon, in the Voronezh region, which borders Ukraine. The company has not confirmed the attack but said its facilities in the area had been evacuated. In July, Ukrainian drone attacks on Wildberries warehouses disrupted operations for many small and medium-sized Russian businesses; Kyiv said at the time it was targeting logistics hubs used to supply the Russian military.
Zelensky also described a Ukrainian air strike on a petrochemical plant in western Siberia as a "very significant achievement" and promised further deep strikes to show Russia that peace was necessary. He has previously accused Russia of receiving military support from North Korea, warning over the weekend that as many as 50,000 North Korean soldiers were being sent to fight with Russian forces.
The latest attacks came a day after Ukrainian drone strikes on the Russian republic of Tatarstan killed at least 13 people, including one child, and injured at least 75. Ukraine's Armed Forces said it hit the city's Tanevo oil refinery. Uzbekistan's consulate said seven of those killed were Uzbek citizens. The assault was described as one of the deadliest single attacks on Russian territory since the full-scale war began in 2022.
