Lunar eclipses are frequent celestial occurrences that can be viewed without specialized equipment, provided the observer is located on the side of the Earth facing the Moon. Unlike solar eclipses, which require protective gear to view safely, lunar eclipses pose no risk to the human eye or camera sensors because they do not involve looking toward the Sun.

A recent image captured in Portugal demonstrates how these events can even be witnessed from an aircraft. While a passenger's view might initially be obstructed depending on their seat location, the extended duration of a lunar eclipse—which typically lasts for several hours—often provides ample time for travelers to adjust their vantage point once the plane is in the air.
