NASA has officially opened the media accreditation process for the 35th SpaceX commercial resupply mission to the International Space Station. The agency and SpaceX are currently targeting a launch date no earlier than October, with the Falcon 9 rocket and Dragon spacecraft scheduled to lift off from Cape Canaveral Space Force Station in Florida.
U.S.-based media outlets have until 11:59 p.m. EDT on October 1 to submit their applications for coverage of the prelaunch and launch activities. Approved applicants will receive confirmation via email, and the agency has provided specific contact channels for logistical inquiries.
The upcoming mission is set to deliver a variety of scientific payloads, including hardware for manufacturing artificial retinas in microgravity, 3D heart cell models for drug testing, and brain organoids intended to aid research into neurodegenerative conditions such as Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s. Additionally, the Dragon spacecraft will carry materials for studying glass formation in space.
A key component of the cargo includes the final sets of International Space Station Roll-Out Solar Arrays (iROSA). These arrays are slated for installation by astronauts during future spacewalks, a move designed to bolster the station's power capacity for ongoing operations and its eventual controlled deorbit.
