NASA has revealed the crew roster for the upcoming SpaceX Crew-14 mission, a commercial rotation flight to the International Space Station (ISS) scheduled to launch no earlier than spring 2027. The mission will transport four crew members from three different space agencies to join the station's Expedition 75/76 for a long-duration science expedition.
The mission will be commanded by NASA astronaut Kayla Barron, a U.S. Navy commander and veteran of the 2021 SpaceX Crew-3 mission. She will be joined by pilot Chris Birch, a NASA astronaut selected in 2021 who will be making her first trip to space. The crew also includes mission specialists Makoto Suwa of the Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency (JAXA) and Arutyun Kiviryan of Roscosmos, both of whom are embarking on their inaugural spaceflights.
The Crew-14 mission is part of NASA’s ongoing efforts to utilize the ISS as a platform for scientific research and technology development. These activities are designed to support future human exploration goals, including the Artemis program's missions to the Moon and eventual crewed travel to Mars. The crew will conduct various investigations aimed at benefiting life on Earth and overcoming the logistical challenges of long-duration spaceflight.
The selected crew members bring a diverse range of professional backgrounds to the mission. Barron holds degrees in systems and nuclear engineering, while Birch is an expert in biological engineering with experience as a capsule communicator. Suwa, a former World Bank employee with a doctorate in geosciences, and Kiviryan, a trained rocket science engineer, round out the international team.
