A Roscosmos Progress 96 cargo spacecraft is scheduled for liftoff from the Baikonur Cosmodrome in Kazakhstan on Wednesday, Sept. 9. The uncrewed vehicle will be carried by a Soyuz rocket, with launch operations slated for 12:15 p.m. EDT.
The vessel is transporting approximately three tons of fuel, food, and various supplies intended for the crew currently residing on the International Space Station. NASA has announced it will broadcast the launch live, with coverage beginning at 12 p.m. EDT.
Following a two-day transit, the spacecraft is expected to perform an autonomous docking with the station's Poisk module at 2:37 p.m. EDT on Friday, Sept. 11. NASA will also provide live coverage of the arrival, starting at 1:45 p.m. EDT. Once docked, the Progress 96 will remain attached to the orbital laboratory for roughly five months before it is deorbited to burn up in Earth's atmosphere.
Prior to the arrival of the new cargo, the Progress 94 spacecraft is scheduled to depart the station on Monday, Sept. 7, at 11:18 a.m. EDT. That vehicle will undergo a planned destructive re-entry, though NASA will not provide live coverage of its undocking.
