The Republic of San Marino has formally entered the Artemis Accords, becoming the 76th nation to join the international coalition dedicated to the responsible exploration of space. The signing ceremony took place on Friday in Rimini, attended by representatives from NASA and the U.S. Department of State.
Minister of Industry and Technological Research Rossano Fabbri signed the agreement on behalf of San Marino. The event was also attended by NASA Europe representative Gregory Mann and U.S. Consul General in Florence Joseph Tordella.
The Artemis Accords were established in 2020 by NASA and the U.S. State Department alongside seven founding nations. The framework outlines a set of principles designed to guide lunar and deep-space activities, including requirements for transparent operations, the sharing of scientific data, the provision of emergency assistance, and the protection of historic space sites.
NASA Deputy Administrator Matt Anderson welcomed the addition of San Marino, noting that the country is now part of a global effort to establish a sustainable presence on the Moon. Minister Fabbri stated that his nation shares the values of the Accords and aims to contribute to international cooperation and the peaceful use of space.
