NASA is preparing for the launch of the SpaceX Crew-13 mission, which is set to lift off from Space Launch Complex 40 at Cape Canaveral Space Force Station in Florida. The mission is scheduled for 11:10 a.m. EDT on Thursday, Oct. 1, with docking at the International Space Station expected at approximately 7 p.m. the same day.
The SpaceX Dragon spacecraft will transport a crew of four, including NASA astronauts Jessica Watkins and Luke Delaney, Canadian Space Agency astronaut Joshua Kutryk, and Roscosmos cosmonaut Sergey Teteryatnikov. The mission is intended for a long-duration stay on the orbital complex. According to NASA, the transit from launch to docking is projected to take seven hours and 50 minutes, which would mark the fastest transit by a U.S. spacecraft in the history of the space station.
Pre-mission activities include a news conference on Wednesday, Sept. 30, featuring representatives from NASA, the Canadian Space Agency, and SpaceX. Following the launch on Oct. 1, a post-launch news conference is also planned. Once the crew arrives at the station, they will conduct a handover with the outgoing Crew-12 mission, which is slated to depart no earlier than Oct. 5.
NASA will provide extensive coverage of the mission, including live streaming of the launch, docking, and hatch opening events. Virtual guests can register for the mission through NASA’s online program, and updates will be provided via the agency's official social media channels and the space station blog.
